Whether you're remodeling an existing kitchen or building a new one, an efficient kitchen design online means that your work triangle minimizes the number of steps the cook must take between the three areas during meal preparation and cleanup. The total distance from the sink to the stove to the refrigerator and back to the sink should be not less than 12 feet total nor more than 27 feet. Each triangle leg should measure between 4 and 9 feet in length. The kitchen isles should be at least 42 to 48 inches wide to allow people to move around easily and for appliances to be opened with ease. When selecting the floor plan for your kitchen design online, here are basic kitchen layouts to consider: L-Shaped Kitchen - this is the most popular kitchen design. It consists of a long leg and a shorter one and this type of design can be used in small and large kitchens. The L-shaped kitchen gives you the possibility of having a center island depending on the space available. In general, this design will have 2 or 3 appliances on one wall. The usual arrangement is to have the refrigerator at one end, the range or cooktop at the other end with the sink located in the middle. This shape of kitchen generally provides good traffic flow. Double L-Shaped Kitchen - this kitchen design has a lot of cabinet space and plenty of counter space. This design is used in large kitchens with two cooks, and it has two or more entering areas, which can cause traffic flow problems. To avoid some of these problems, create two separate working areas on each L of the kitchen so that work flow does not get interrupted by human traffic. U-Shaped Kitchen - this kitchen design online shape has three walls instead of two, and the sink usually is located in the middle wall section. The refrigerator and range or cooktop are usually on the side walls opposite each other. The U-shaped kitchen design gives room for ample countertop space, and you have three walls for cabinets and appliances. This kitchen layout tends to create a working triangle that is very efficient.

1. Size: Once you have decided on the materials that you'd like to use, it is time to consider the size. Do you want to go big and dramatic, making your kitchen island a focal piece of your kitchen remodel? Or are you more interested in something smaller and less obtrusive, using the island more for standalone functional? Consider how much use it will get, what it will be used for, and how important open floor space is in your kitchen when deciding on dimensions. 2. Levels: If you decide to go the smaller-sized route when constructing your island that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to give up surface area. Adding a second level of a different height to your design will give the piece additional functionality. Multiple levels can be used for different functions such as: a place for a cutting board or book shelf, or as a breakfast bar with stool beneath it. These alternative designs can help give your kitchen island a more customized appeal. 3. Add a Sink or Two: Adding kitchen appliances such as a sink to your new kitchen island will give it even more functionality and also serve as a gathering point when entertaining. A sink boosts the usability of any kitchen island by giving you another place to rinse off food and wash dishes. A sink can also be great when entertaining, so your guests can take part in the preparation of the meal without cluttering up your existing counter space around the oven and refrigerator.

Wood veneers - Most any wood commonly used for hardwood doors is available is in thin sheets called veneer which are applied over resin particle board or MDF (medium density fiberboard). This type of door construction accomplishes a clean look with a natural wood finish often found in contemporary kitchens. A kitchen cabinet door cannot resist warping when fabricated in a flat wide style, so a wood veneer is used to create the appearance of a solid wood door without losing stability. When selecting specific veneer wood, the hardness plays a large factor in long term durability. Maple and cherry are the toughest, while alder and poplar are the softest or least durable. Cost is often pretty comparable to a solid raised panel door of similar wood species. Synthetics - Process is similar to the above mentioned wood veneer, with the exception that the veneer material is a PVC substance that typically possesses more durability and lower cost. Often used in commercial applications and utilitarian residential. applications such as garages and laundry rooms.

Facilities. What do you need to include within the kitchen? That'll depend on what you want from your kitchen. For example, is you kitchen to be used only for food preparation and serving? Then the minimum for most family kitchens would be: cooker, hob, sink, refrigerator, table or countertops, storage for food and cooking ingredients, storage for cooking utensils such as pots, pans, casseroles, etc, storage for kitchen cutlery, garbage container(s), Other common items to remember: dishwasher, freezer, microwave oven, kettle, tea or coffee maker, drinks dispenser, toaster, What about family dining? Will that usually take place in the kitchen? dining table and chairs, storage for dining crockery & cutlery, Does your home have a separate laundry or utility room? If not, you'll need to plan space for items such as, washing machine, tumble dryer, or other means of clothes dryiny, Space, Once you've listed all the essential appliances and convenience items you want to have in your kitchen, the next step is to check that there is enough floor space available for them all. Remember too - unless you are planning to do major re-building work, you'll need to accept a few "givens", such as: sink position is limited by location of water supply and drains plumbing, and probably windows, same with dishwasher or clothes washing machine, cooker & hob positions are limited by gas and/or electricity supply connections and controls, You'll see a repeated theme in the list above - "storage" - for all sorts of items from food to cleaning materials. That's why kitchen storage cabinets play such a large part in the space allocation and costs. In fact, the largest component of cost in most kitchen re-design projects is the cost of kitchen cabinets and countertops, especially if you've chosen granite countertops.

What's determines your kitchen layout? You've heard of the phrase "form follows function". This is true when it comes to the layout of a kitchen. There are, however, some basic kitchen layout shapes i.e. Straight, Galley, L, U, and G that are based on the work triangle. The work triangle is formed by tracing an invisible line between the sink, range, and refrigerator. No leg of the triangle is shorter than 4 feet nor longer than 9 feet. With the total of all legs not being greater than 26 feet. No obstructions in the triangle. STRAIGHT | ONE WALL. The one wall kitchen layout is the smallest of all kitchen design layouts. There really is not work triangle as such for obvious reasons. This kitchen layout is ideal for smaller homes or as a secondary kitchen in a larger homes. This type of kitchen plan is best suited for an efficiency style of apartment and is often incorporated into loft style or open floor plans.

It seems that no matter how much time you budget for a remodeling project, it usually takes longer than you expected. For a complete remodel, the down time during construction can be at least two or three months and much longer, depending upon the size and extent of the project. Your family needs to eat in the meantime. So, before construction starts make arrangements to store, heat and clean up, enough to keep you going until the kitchen is back on-line. Many of my clients who have had the good fortune to have a bar sink in the family room, have moved in the old refrigerator and microwave near the bar sink and this combination becomes the interim kitchen during construction of the new one. The upside to this is that it provides a great rationale for eating out more often! THE KITCHEN FOOTPRINT. Let's start with the space you have available for the kitchen. Whether you are designing for a new home, or remodeling in an existing one, you are limited by how much space you have available in which to create your dream. If the space is fairly small, you will want to consider whether or not you have the option of expanding. You may be able to accomplish this in your existing home and, in a new home, very often you still have time to alter the architectural plan, if needed. In either case, if you can eliminate or relocate a wall or walls or add to the house to create more space for the kitchen, it will improve the function and value of the room significantly.
